Unrestrained Louisiana Woman Killed in Crash on LA 115 After Colliding with a Logging Truck

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported that LSP Troop I was notified of a two-vehicle collision on Louisiana Highway 115 at O’Quin Loop in Evangeline Parish shortly after 9:00 a.m. on October 19, 2022. Rita Vidrine, 75, of St. Landry, Louisiana, died in the crash.

Vidrine was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Impala north on LA 115, according to preliminary investigations. At the same time, Gregory Campanella, 52, was driving a 2013 Freightliner logging truck north on LA 115 after entering the road from private property. Vidrine’s Impala collided with the rear of the logging truck in the northbound lane of traffic.

Vidrine was not restrained and died as a result of the crash. The Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office declared her deceased at the scene. Campanella was restrained and not hurt.

Toxicology samples from Vidrine have been sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Campanella provided a breath sample that showed no alcohol in his system and no evidence of impairment. He was cited for failing to yield from private property in violation of La R.S. 32:124. This accident is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Police would like to remind motorists to never drive when inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and to always ensure that all occupants are securely fastened. Simple precautions like these can frequently make the difference between life and death.

Since the beginning of 2022, Troop I has investigated 41 deadly crashes that have resulted in 46 deaths.
