Unrestrained Louisiana Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash While Making a U-Turn on LA 3127

Louisiana – On October 13, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that shortly after 12:00 p.m., LSP Troop C was notified of a two-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 3127, just east of Louisiana Highway 3213. Ray Francois, 41, of Boutte, Louisiana died in the crash.

According to early inquiry, Francois was driving west on LA Hwy 3127 in a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. A 2019 Mack dump truck followed Francois west. Francois began to make a U-turn in the road for unknown reasons. The dump truck driver attempted to avoid a collision by moving to the left but hit the Chevrolet.
Francois was not restrained at the time of the accident and died as a result of his injuries.

The dump truck driver was securely restrained and escaped unharmed.

A toxicological sample was taken from Francois and sent for testing. The dump truck driver was not suspected of being intoxicated and voluntarily consented to a chemical breath test, which revealed no alcohol. This crash is still being investigated.

Drivers should make sound decisions while on the road. Following all traffic signs and signals, never driving while inebriated, drowsy, or distracted, and making sure you and your passengers are properly restrained in all seating positions can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2022, Troop C investigated 38 fatal crashes that resulted in 42 deaths.
