St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana – In the early hours of January 11, 2024, Louisiana State Police Troop B initiated an inquiry into a fatal collision involving two vehicles on LA 47 near Marina Road in St. Bernard Parish. The incident resulted in the tragic passing of Eric M. Pepp Jr., aged 44 and from Chalmette, Louisiana.

According to the initial findings, Pepp Jr. was driving a 2023 Nissan Murano northbound on LA 47, just south of Marina Road, when his vehicle collided with the rear of a northbound 2014 Volvo tractor-trailer. Pepp Jr., who was not wearing a seat belt at the time, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Volvo was unharmed.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated, including whether impairment or excessive speed played a role. Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers for analysis as part of this ongoing investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to emphasize the importance of making responsible choices while operating motor vehicles and urge motorists to always buckle up. It is mandatory by Louisiana law for all vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position due to the significant role that not wearing a seat belt plays in preventable fatalities resulting from motor vehicle crashes.
