Ascension Parish, Louisiana – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A initiated an investigation into a single-vehicle collision, which occurred near Denham Road on LA 429 in Ascension Parish, just before 7:00 a.m. on October 1. Tragically, the crash resulted in the death of 42-year-old Gonzales, Louisiana resident, Steven Thomas.

The preliminary probe disclosed that Thomas was operating a 2010 Nissan Maxima, traveling westward on LA 429. For reasons that are still under investigation, the Nissan veered off the road to the right, collided with a culvert, and subsequently flipped over.

According to reports from LSP. at the time of the collision, Thomas was not wearing his seatbelt and was thrown out of his car. Regrettably, he died on the spot due to the injuries he sustained.

A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Thomas for further examination. The crash is still being investigated.

Not every crash can be survived, however, data shows that correctly utilized safety restraints have a considerable effect in lessening your chances of harm or fatality in a collision. In Louisiana, the law insists that every passenger, regardless of where they are seated, has always to have their seat belts fastened. Correct use of your seat belt stands as one of the most potent methods in preserving your life and minimizing injuries in crashes.
