Unrestrained Louisiana Man Killed in Late-Night Single-Vehicle Crash After Colliding With Culvert and Light Post on US 61
Baton Rouge, Louisiana – An unrestrained Louisiana man was killed in a late-night single-vehicle crash after colliding with a culvert and light post on US 61.
Louisiana State Police (LSP) stated on April 9, 2023, that on April 8, just after 11:30 p.m., Troopers with Troop A began investigating a fatal crash on US Highway 61 (Airline Highway) near Castille Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. Daryus Weston, 31, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.
The crash occurred when Weston was driving northbound on US Highway 61 in a 2007 BMW 328, according to authorities during the preliminary investigation. The BMW went off the road to the right for unknown reasons, colliding with a culvert and a concrete light post.
LSP indicated that Weston was unrestrained at the time of the crash and died as a result of his injuries. Weston was declared dead at the scene of the crash. A regular toxicological sample was acquired from Weston for analysis as part of the continuing investigation. This crash is still being investigated.
While not all accidents are avoidable, statistics suggest that wearing your seat belt properly reduces your chances of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that everyone in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, wear their seat belts at all times. Wearing your seat belt correctly is one of the most efficient strategies to save your life and limit injuries in a vehicle crash.
