Maurepas, Louisiana — Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on LA 16 near Old Ferry Road in Livingston Parish early Monday morning, claiming the life of a 26-year-old man.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop A, the crash happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. on April 28, 2025. Preliminary investigation revealed that Chandon Hickerson of Vacherie was traveling westbound on LA 16 in a 2014 GMC Sierra when a 2007 Ram 2500 pickup truck traveling eastbound crossed the center line and struck Hickerson’s vehicle head-on.
Troopers reported that Hickerson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ram, who was also unrestrained, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
While impairment is not currently suspected as a factor in the crash, investigators have collected standard toxicology samples that will be submitted for analysis, following protocol for fatal collisions in Louisiana.
State Police have not yet determined why the Ram crossed into oncoming traffic. The investigation remains active as authorities work to establish the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
This incident highlights the importance of wearing seatbelts while driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seatbelts reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent.
Louisiana law requires all vehicle occupants to be properly restrained, regardless of seating position.
