Unrestrained Louisiana Man Killed in Crash on US 425, Impairment Suspected
Louisiana – According to Louisiana State Police, on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at approximately 4:45 a.m., LSP Troop F responded to a one-vehicle crash on US Highway 425 south of Louisiana Highway 3051. Ethan J. Nelson, 20, of Bastrop, was killed in the crash because he was not restrained.
Nelson was driving north on US Highway 425 in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Truck, according to preliminary investigation. The Chevrolet left the road, hit a driveway, and overturned, ejecting Nelson for unknown reasons.
Nelson, who was not restrained, died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner. Minor injuries were sustained by Nelson’s passengers. Impairment is thought to be a factor. A toxicology sample was sent in for testing. This crash is still being investigated.
The Louisiana State Police want to remind everyone that if you feel differently, you drive differently. Alcohol, prescription drugs, and other drugs have a variety of side effects on the body that impair driving abilities. Furthermore, buckling up is the most effective way to protect yourself in a car accident. Failure to buckle up for a few seconds can have disastrous consequences. Every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, must be properly restrained at all times under Louisiana law.
In 2022, Troop F has investigated 10 fatal crashes, which have resulted in 12 fatalities.
