Spears, 25, of Mittie, Louisiana was killed in the crash. According to preliminary findings, the driver of a 2001 Mack (18-wheeler) log truck was traveling west on LA 26. Spears, who was also driving west in a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser, collided with the back of the log truck for unknown reasons.

Spears, who was not properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the log truck was properly restrained and was not injured.
Toxicology samples were collected from Spears and the log truck driver and submitted for analysis. This accident is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Troopers would like to remind motorists to always make sound decisions when driving. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, and always make sure all occupants are properly restrained. While not all car accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can often mean the difference between life and death.
In 2022, Troop D investigated 12 fatal crashes that resulted in 14 deaths.
