Unrestrained Louisiana Man Killed After His Vehicle Struck the Guardrail and Overturned on LA 5
Louisiana – On Thursday, September 8, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that Troopers assigned to LSP Troop G began investigating a one-vehicle fatality crash on LA Hwy 5, south of Kalmbach Road shortly after 3:00 p.m. Eric Sweet, 34, of Many, Louisiana, was unrestrained and died in the crash.
The initial investigation revealed that Sweet was driving a 2016 Ram pickup south on LA Hwy 5. He exited the roadway and struck a guardrail before overturning for unknown reasons.
Sweet, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed at the scene and was pronounced dead by the DeSoto Parish Coroner.
Although impairment is not thought to be a factor in this crash, regular toxicological samples were collected and sent for examination. The crash is still being investigated.
Buckling up is the most efficient strategy to protect yourself in the event of a car accident. Failure to buckle up for a few seconds might have disastrous effects. Every individual in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, is required by Louisiana law to be properly restrained at all times.
Troop G has investigated 27 fatal crashes so far in 2022, resulting in 30 deaths.
