Unrestrained Louisiana Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Rollover Crash After Reportedly Driving at High Speeds and Refusing to Stop For Authorities
St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana – A Louisiana man who was not restrained died in a single-vehicle rollover crash after reportedly driving at high speeds and refusing to stop for authorities.
On June 21, 2023, Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office requested Troopers from LSP Troop B to investigate a single-vehicle crash on LA 44 (River Road) at E. 20th Street on June 20, shortly after 9:30 p.m. Byron Tuircuit of Reserve, Louisiana, was killed in the collision.
According to reports from authorities, deputies of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office noticed Tuircuit driving dangerously in the area of Little Hope Street and LA 44 in Garyville, Louisiana. Officers attempted to stop the Silverado as it drove down LA 44. Tuircuit reportedly refused to stop and continued to drive recklessly at high speeds. Tuircuit lost control of his vehicle as he reached the intersection of E. 20th Street, traveling off the right side of the road and flipping numerous times.
Tuircuit, who was reportedly unrestrained at the time of the incident, was ejected and pronounced dead at the site. Tuircuit’s impairment is unknown, and normal toxicological findings are awaited. This collision is still being investigated.
Speeding, impairment, and a failure to wear a seatbelt remain the primary causes of fatal collisions. Troopers advise the public to make a plan to prevent driving while intoxicated. Speeding diminishes a driver’s ability to safely steer around curves or obstructions in the road, increases the distance required to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation. Troopers want to educate drivers about the significance of making safe decisions behind the wheel. While not all collisions are avoidable, wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the odds of being killed or badly injured in a collision.
