Unrestrained Louisiana Man Dies in Crash on LA 14 After Colliding with Trailer
Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported on June 21, 2022, that on June 20, 2022, just before 5:00 p.m., LSP Troop I responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 14 near Odilon Road in Vermilion Parish. Walter R. Meyer, 63, of Gueydan, Louisiana, was killed in the crash. Meyer was driving east on LA 14 in a 2002 GMC Sierra pickup, following behind a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a trailer, according to preliminary investigation. The Silverado’s driver slowed and began turning left onto Odilon Road. Meyer’s Sierra collided with the trailer’s rear and began to rotate.
Meyer was not restrained and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries. The Silverado’s driver was properly restrained and was not injured. He displayed no signs of intoxication and provided a breath sample that revealed no alcohol was present. This crash is still being investigated.
Louisiana State Troopers urge motorists to always make sound decisions behind the wheel. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, and always make sure all occupants are properly restrained. While not all car accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can often mean the difference between life and death.
Louisiana State Police Troop I has investigated 20 fatal crashes so far in 2022, resulting in 23 deaths.
