Arabi, Louisiana - A fatal single-vehicle crash in St. Bernard Parish on Saturday afternoon claimed the life of a Metairie man after his SUV struck a billboard support structure.

Scott Sanders, 64, of Metairie, Louisiana, died following the crash that occurred around 12:30 p.m. on October 25, 2025, on LA Highway 39 at Schnell Drive, according to Louisiana State Police Troop B.

Sanders was driving a 2025 Hyundai Palisade northbound on LA 39 near Schnell Drive when the vehicle departed the right side of the roadway, investigators said. The SUV then collided with a reinforced steel billboard support pillar.

The preliminary investigation indicates Sanders was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He sustained serious injuries in the collision and was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Louisiana State Police reported that impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor in the crash. However, routine toxicology testing has been conducted, and those results remain pending.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused Sanders to leave the roadway. The crash remains under active investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop B.
