Unrestrained Louisiana Man Dies After Being Ejected in Rollover Crash on US 84

Louisiana – According to the Louisiana State Police, at around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, Troopers from LSP Troop G started looking into a fatal one-vehicle collision that happened on US Highway 84 near Buffalo Road in Mansfield, Louisiana. Jason Viola, 39, of Mooringsport, Louisiana, was not wearing a seat belt and lost his life in this crash.

According to the preliminary investigation, Viola was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima as it traveled east on US Highway 84. He left the road for unknown reasons, ran over a culvert, and then rolled over.
Viola was unrestrained and thrown from the car. The DeSoto Parish Coroner declared him dead at the scene after he sustained fatal injuries.

It is thought that impairment contributed to this collision. Standard toxicology samples were collected and sent in for examination. The accident is still being investigated.

Troopers frequently see motor vehicle collisions that could have been avoided. The main factors in crashes in Louisiana are impairment and failure to use a seat belt. When driving after consuming alcohol, Louisiana State Police advise drivers to have a plan in place that includes a designated driver. Alcohol can affect one’s ability to see, change their perception of time and space, affect their fine motor skills, and slow down their reaction times. After just one drink, alcohol can start to make it unsafe for someone to drive a car. Please remember to buckle up and never drive or ride with an impaired driver.

So far in 2022, Troop G has investigated 22 fatal crashes, resulting in 23 deaths.
