Unrestrained Louisiana Man and Teenage Nephew Killed in Single-Vehicle Rollover Crash on LA 328
Breaux Bridge, Louisiana – An unrestrained Louisiana man and his teenage nephew were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash on LA 328.
The Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that on February 19, 2023, soon after 1:00 p.m., Troopers from LSP Troop I were alerted of a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 328 near Juleau Champagne Road in St. Martin Parish. Christopher Aron Thibodeaux, 41, and his nephew, Carter Bryan Potts, 16, both of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, were killed in the crash.
The incident occurred while Thibodeaux was driving a 2017 Ford Escape west on LA 328, according to the first investigation by State Police. The automobile ran off the road to the left and into the ditch on the south side of the road for unknown reasons. After exiting the ditch, the vehicle continued to overturn many times in the area beyond the ditch.
Thibodeaux was reportedly not restrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Although being securely restrained, Potts died as a result of his injuries.
The St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced both occupants deceased at the site. The extent of impairment is unknown, and a toxicological sample was taken from Thibodeaux for testing.
This crash is still being investigated.
Troopers would like to take this occasion to remind motorists to make sound judgments when driving. Never drive while inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and always make sure all occupants are securely restrained. While not all vehicle accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
So far in 2023, LSP Troop I has investigated 11 fatal crashes that resulted in 13 deaths.
