Unrestrained Louisiana Driver Killed, Passenger Injured in Rollover Crash on I-10

An unrestrained Louisiana driver was killed and a passenger was injured in a rollover crash on I-10.

Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police (LSP) stated on February 18, 2023, that soon after 11:00 a.m., LSP Troop D was notified of a single-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. Interstate 10 about 2 miles east of Louisiana Highway 108. Duane Spearance, a 56-year-old man from Lake Charles, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.

According to the preliminary inquiry, Spearance was traveling west on Interstate 10 in the right lane in a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer when his vehicle suffered a rear tire failure. The Chevrolet then went off the road to the right, overturning many times.

Spearance was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle, and died as a result of his injuries. A passenger in the Chevy was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries, and was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A standard toxicological sample was acquired from Spearance and submitted for analysis. This crash is still being investigated.

Vehicle accidents are unpredictable and can be violent. Buckling up in 3 seconds is your best protection in surviving an automobile accident. Wear your seat belt at all times. Every journey. Every single time.
