Slaughter, Louisiana – Troopers from the Louisiana State Police Troop A arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on LA 958, south of LA 959 in East Feliciana Parish, shortly after 10:00 p.m. on May 31, 2024. Sadly, the crash resulted in a death, and the driver’s identity is not being released until their next of kin has been notified.
The initial inquiry showed that a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck was driving north on LA 958, just south of LA 959. For reasons that are still being looked into, the Chevrolet veered off the road to the left, went into a ditch, and hit a culvert.
The driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash, and was partially thrown out of the vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Although it is unclear if the driver was under the influence of any substances, samples were taken for testing.
Although not all crashes can be survived, studies indicate that wearing your seat belt correctly can greatly lower the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed in a collision. According to Louisiana law, all passengers in a vehicle must always wear their seat belts, regardless of where they are seated. Ensuring that you wear your seat belt properly is one of the most successful methods to protect yourself and minimize injuries in crashes.
