Unrestrained Louisiana Driver Killed in Crash on LA 175, Impairment Suspected

Sabine Parish, Louisiana – On September 26, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that LSP Troop E responded to a fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 175 north of Louisiana Highway 120 on September 25, 2022, at around 2:30 p.m. Albert Nettles, 35, of Marthaville, Louisiana was killed in the crash.

The initial inquiry found that Nettles was driving a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck south on Louisiana Highway 175. Nettles’ vehicle went off the road and down the ditch embankment before colliding with a concrete bridge structure and overturned for unknown reasons. Nettles was expelled from the vehicle as a result of this action.
Unrestrained Nettles suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead.

According to Louisiana State Police, this crash may have been caused by impairment. A toxicological sample was collected and submitted for testing. This crash is still being investigated.

While not all accidents are avoidable, correct use of seat belts can significantly lower an occupant’s risk of death and injury. Making certain that all occupants are properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.

The Louisiana State Police want to remind everyone that if you feel differently, you drive differently. Alcohol, prescription drugs, and other drugs have a variety of side effects on the body that impair driving abilities. These substances can impair visual capacity, distort one’s sense of time and space, degrade fine motor abilities required to drive a car, and prolong reaction times. Drivers are recommended to plan ahead of time and choose a sober driver. Failure to do so can have fatal repercussions.

So far in 2022, Troop E has investigated 38 fatal crashes, resulting in 40 deaths.
