Unrestrained Louisiana Driver Killed, Another Injured in Wrong-Way Head-On Crash on US 190

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported on November 10, 2022, that soon after 9:15 p.m. on November 9, 2022, LSP Troop I was notified of a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 190 near Frank Road in St. Landry Parish. Scott W. Edwards, 44, of Opelousas, Louisiana, was killed in the collision.

According to preliminary investigations, a 2017 Toyota Camry was heading west on US 190. At the same time, Edwards was driving a 2013 Cadillac CTS east in the westbound lanes of US 190. The Cadillac collided with the Camry in the westbound lanes.

Both Edwards and the driver of the Camry were unrestrained at the time of the incident, according to troopers. The Camry's driver was sent to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The St. Landry Parish Coroner's Office pronounced Edwards deceased at the scene.

Police indicated that impairment is unknown but toxicology samples were taken for analysis. This crash is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this time to urge motorists to always make sound decisions behind the wheel. Never drive while intoxicated, tired, or preoccupied. Always keep all occupants properly restrained and obey all traffic laws. Simple precautions like these can frequently make the difference between life and death.

Troop Since the beginning of 2022, I have investigated 51 deadly crashes that have resulted in 57 deaths.
