Amite, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred in the early morning hours of March 20, 2025, resulting in the death of a young Greensburg resident.

According to preliminary reports from Troop L of the Louisiana State Police, 23-year-old Darrel L. Cyprian Jr. of Greensburg, Louisiana was traveling westbound on Louisiana Highway 1045 near Opal Bennett Road in St. Helena Parish when the incident occurred around 4:00 a.m.

Investigators believe Cyprian, driving a 2014 Cadillac ATS, failed to successfully navigate a right-hand curve in the roadway. This caused the vehicle to veer off into the eastbound ditch where it collided with a tree.

Officials noted that Cyprian was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The impact resulted in his ejection from the vehicle, and he sustained fatal injuries. Emergency responders pronounced him deceased at the scene.

As part of standard protocol following fatal crashes, authorities have collected a toxicology sample from Cyprian for analysis. This testing will help determine if impairment may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing as troopers work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal incident.

Louisiana State Police continue to emphasize the importance of proper seatbelt use for all vehicle occupants, noting that seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of fatal injury during crashes.
