Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police Troop E is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred in the early morning hours of November 8, 2025, on Louisiana Highway 1 near Hamburg. The collision claimed the life of 41-year-old Luke J. Terrell of Moreauville.

Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 3:50 a.m., where they found that a 2023 Kia K5 traveling northbound on Louisiana Highway 1 had crossed the centerline into the southbound lane. The Kia then collided head-on with a 2021 Chevrolet Spark driven by Terrell.

The driver of the Kia, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, sustained moderate injuries in the collision. Emergency responders transported the driver to a local hospital for treatment of those injuries.

Terrell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators have not yet determined why the Kia crossed into the opposing lane of traffic. Louisiana State Police continue to examine the circumstances that led to the head-on collision.

As part of standard protocol in fatal crashes, troopers collected routine toxicology samples from both drivers. Those samples have been submitted to a laboratory for analysis, though results are pending.

Authorities have indicated that charges are pending in the case, though no arrests have been announced at this time.

Louisiana State Police remind motorists that seatbelt use remains one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury or death in vehicle crashes. State law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seatbelts while traveling in motor vehicles.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Louisiana State Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the collision or the condition of the Kia driver.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
