Assumption Parish, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police Troop C initiated an inquiry into a single-vehicle crash resulting in severe injuries on Louisiana Highway 70 near Louisiana Highway 996, around 10 pm on the evening of November 3, 2023. On November 9, LSP reported that tragically, the crash led to the passing of Keith Caballero, aged 66 and from Donaldsonville, Louisiana.

The initial examination indicated that Caballero was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on LA Hwy 70 when the vehicle veered off the road to the right while negotiating a curve. In an attempt to correct this, Caballero steered left but overcompensated, causing the Chevrolet to cross into oncoming traffic before overturning off the left side of the road.

At the time of impact, Caballero was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained serious injuries. Despite being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries later. A routine toxicology sample was taken and is currently awaiting analysis as part of ongoing investigations into this incident.

It’s crucial to emphasize that buckling up is paramount for safeguarding oneself while driving or riding in any vehicle. This simple act can significantly reduce the risk of severe injury or fatality in case of an accident and takes only a few seconds. Always remember to fasten your seatbelt before embarking on any journey, regardless of its length.

In 2023 alone, Troop C has probed 26 fatal crashes resulting in 29 fatalities.
