Jackson Parish, Louisiana - An unrestrained driver was killed in a head-on crash after crossing the centerline on LA 147 in Jackson Parish.

Louisiana State Police Troop F started probing into a deadly collision involving two vehicles on Louisiana Highway 147 close to Bear Creek Road in Jackson Parish on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, shortly before 5:00 in the morning. The crash resulted in the death of 43-year-old Sidney Daniels from Jonesboro, Louisiana.

Initial findings from the investigation showed that a 1990 Ford Taurus, operated by Daniels, headed south on LA Hwy 147. Concurrently, a 2005 Kenworth commercial motor vehicle (CMV) was proceeding north on the same highway. In circumstances yet to be determined, the Taurus crossed over the center line and hit the commercial vehicle. Due to the collision, Daniels, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown out of the car.

Daniels, unfortunately, succumbed to fatal injuries from the crash and was declared dead on the scene by the Jackson Parish Coroner's Office. The Kenworth driver, who was appropriately buckled up, wasn't harmed. Even though there's no suspicion of impairment, standard toxicology tests were carried out and the results will be sent for evaluation. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

LSP indicated that although not every crash is survivable, data suggests that correctly fastening your seatbelt significantly decreases your risk of injury or death in a collision. Every occupant in a vehicle, no matter where they're seated, must always have their seat belt on as mandated by Louisiana law. Correct use of your seat belt is among the most reliable methods to prevent death and lessen injuries in vehicular crashes.

By 2023, Unit F had looked into 20 deadly accidents which resulted in a total of 22 fatalities.
