Unrestrained Driver Killed and Five Injured in Head-On Rollover Crash in Louisiana
Louisiana – On July 31, 2022, Louisiana State Police stated that Troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle fatal incident on LA Hwy 21 near Little Southern Village Road in Washington Parish shortly after 10:45 p.m. on July 30, 2022. Kevin Christensen, 35, of Mandeville, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.
According to the preliminary inquiry, Christensen was driving in the incorrect direction in the southbound lanes of LA Hwy 21 in a 2000 Toyota Tundra. A 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading southbound on LA Hwy 21 at the same time. The Toyota collided with the Jeep in the left southbound lane of LA Hwy 21 for unknown reasons. The Jeep overturned as a result of the incident.
Christensen was not properly restrained at the time of the accident and sustained injuries that resulted in his death. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Jeep was restrained appropriately but still suffered serious injuries. The Jeep had four other occupants, all of whom were also properly restrained and suffered minor to moderate injuries. The Jeep’s occupants were all taken to a nearby hospital.
According to authorities, it was unknown if either driver was impaired at the time of the crash, and regular toxicology results are pending for both drivers. This crash is still being investigated.
Troopers would like to urge motorists to always make sound judgments when driving. Never drive while inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and always obey all traffic rules. While not all accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
