Evangeline Parish, Louisiana - Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were alerted to a single-vehicle collision on Louisiana Highway 104 near Richardson Lane in Evangeline Parish at around 9:00 p.m. on November 4, 2023. The unfortunate incident took the life of Anthony J. Bias, a 42-year-old resident of Mamou, Louisiana.

According to the initial investigation conducted by Louisiana State Police, Bias was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima in a westerly direction on LA Hwy 104 when he veered off the road and entered a ditch for reasons unknown. Subsequently, the front of the Altima collided with a tree.

Tragically, Bias was not wearing his seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the impact. The Evangeline Parish Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene. It remains unclear whether impairment played a role in the crash, and a toxicology sample was submitted for analysis.

Since the start of 2023, Troop I has investigated a total of 44 fatal crashes that have resulted in 49 fatalities.
