Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana – An unrestrained driver was killed and two others were injured in a nighttime crash on LA 1064 in Tangipahoa Parish.

On August 15, 2023, just before 7:00 p.m., officers from the Louisiana State Police Troop L started investigating a deadly crash involving two vehicles on LA Hwy 1064 close to Randall Road, in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash led to the unfortunate death of 25-year-old  Dustin Lucas from Tickfaw, Louisiana.

The initial findings of the investigation indicate that Lucas was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla westward on LA Hwy 1064. Simultaneously, a 2012 Hyundai Genesis was heading eastward on the same highway. For reasons yet to be determined, the Toyota veered over the centerline into the eastbound lane and collided with the Hyundai.

LSP indicated that Lucas wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries due to the crash, resulting in his death at the crash site. The Hyundai driver wasn’t secured by a seatbelt and experienced moderate injuries, while an unrestrained passenger in the same vehicle suffered less severe harm. Both individuals from the Hyundai were taken to a nearby healthcare facility. During the continuing inquiry, a regular toxicology sample was taken from both motorists to be analyzed.

Although not all crashes can be survived, data indicates that correctly fastening your seatbelt significantly lowers the risk of injury or fatality in a collision. The law in Louisiana stipulates that each occupant in a car, irrespective of their seating location, must always have their seatbelts fastened. Proper usage of your seatbelt is among the most potent methods to preserve your life and minimize injuries in crashes.
