Unrestrained 79-Year-Old Louisiana Woman Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash After Her Truck Ran Off the Road and Struck a Tree

Oak Grove, Louisiana – An unrestrained 79-year-old Louisiana woman died in a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 2 when her truck exited the road and struck a tree.

On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, Louisiana State Police reported that at approximately 7:00 a.m., LSP Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 2 west of Louisiana Highway 587. Wanda C. Kennedy, 79, was killed in the crash.

The early investigation found that Kennedy was driving west on Louisiana Highway 2 in a 2004 Toyota Tacoma. The vehicle exited the route and struck a tree for unknown reasons.

Kennedy, who was unrestrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by West Carroll Parish Coroner.
Impairment is not suspected to be a factor. As with all fatal crashes, toxicology samples were collected and analyzed. This accident is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Troopers would want to urge motorists to always make sound judgments when driving motor vehicles. Please take a few moments to buckle up. Day and night, Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be securely restrained in all seating positions. The most common cause of preventable fatality in car accidents is not wearing a seat belt.

Troop F has investigated two fatal crashes so far in 2023, resulting in two deaths.
