Unidentified Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Early Morning Crash in Louisiana on LA 101

Louisiana – Troopers with LSP Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian near the intersection of LA Hwy 101 and Gro Racca Road in Jefferson Davis Parish on May 26, 2022, at approximately 1:00 a.m. An unidentified pedestrian was killed in the crash. The pedestrian was walking north within the lane of travel on LA 101, according to the preliminary investigation. At the same time, the driver of a northbound 2013 Ford F150 pickup truck struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ford driver was not injured and showed no signs of impairment. Toxicology samples were collected from the driver and pedestrian and sent for testing. This crash is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Police reiterated that pedestrian collisions can often be avoided by following some basic safety guidelines. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and avoid walking on the road in low-light conditions. Pedestrians must also assume that approaching motorists will not be able to see them, particularly at night. Pedestrians will be safer if they cross roads only in well-lit, designated areas and always walk facing traffic.

Troop D has investigated 8 fatal crashes resulting in 9 deaths in 2022.
