Richland Parish, Louisiana - Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F commenced an investigation on the evening of Saturday, October 28, 2023, following a tragic single-vehicle incident on I-20, just east of the Start exit. Regrettably, the crash claimed the life of Vincent Moody, a 60-year-old resident of Indiana.
According to the initial findings, the mishap involved a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, ridden by Moody, which was heading west on I-20. Unfortunately, Moody collided with an inflatable jumper that was obstructing the roadway, leading to his ejection from the motorcycle.
Despite being transported to a local hospital, Moody, who was not wearing a Department of Transportation (DOT) approved helmet, succumbed to his injuries. Another motorcyclist also encountered the inflatable jumper and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. They were promptly taken to a nearby medical facility for necessary treatment.
While impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were gathered and will undergo analysis. The investigation into this incident is still ongoing.
Whether operating a motorcycle or any other vehicle, it is crucial for drivers to exercise sound judgment while traveling on the road. Motorcyclists, in particular, must adhere to safe and responsible practices, including obeying speed limits, utilizing a DOT approved helmet, and refraining from operating their motorcycles under the influence of any impairing substances. Should motorists come across hazardous situations or suspect any drivers to be impaired, they are advised to dial LSP (577) to connect with the nearest Troop and report the activity.
