Ascension Parish, Louisiana - Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A initiated an investigation into a collision involving two vehicles on LA 429 in Ascension Parish on October 18, 2023, shortly after 5:00 p.m. Tragically, the crash resulted in the loss of an unborn child's life.
According to the preliminary findings, a 2023 Mitsubishi SUV was traveling eastbound on LA 429 while a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer was heading westbound on the same road. The Mitsubishi inexplicably veered across the centerline and collided head-on with the Chevrolet. The driver of the Mitsubishi, who was seven months pregnant at the time of the incident, was wearing proper restraints according to LSP.
Following transportation to a nearby hospital for treatment, medical professionals determined that the unborn child succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Chevrolet also had proper restraints and suffered minor injuries; they were transported to a local hospital for treatment as well.
As part of their ongoing investigation, authorities obtained a toxicology sample from the Mitsubishi's driver for analysis purposes. Once completed, any charges resulting from this incident will be forwarded to the Ascension Parish District Attorney's Office.
Troopers strongly emphasize that drivers should avoid all distractions while operating vehicles, including cell phone usage, eating or drinking, or any other activities that may divert their attention away from driving.
