Two Unrestrained Louisiana Drivers Killed in Separate Single-Vehicle Crashes

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported on October 10 that two drivers were killed in two separate single-vehicle crashes.

On October 10, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatal incident on LA Hwy 1054, near North River Road, in Tangipahoa Parish last night, soon before 9:30 p.m. Steven Sanders, 64, of Kentwood, Louisiana was killed in the crash.
The initial inquiry found that a 2018 Ford F-150 was traveling west on LA Highway 1054. The Ford went off the road to the right for reasons that are still being investigated. The Ford hit a tree after leaving the road.

Sanders was unrestrained at the time of the accident and died as a result of his injuries. Sanders was declared dead at the scene of the crash. A toxicological sample was obtained from Sanders for processing as part of the continuing investigation. This crash is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Police also reported that on October 10, 2022, soon after 1:30 a.m., troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 16, near LA Hwy 449, in St. Helena Parish. Dathan Langlois, 20, of Zachary, Louisiana died in the crash.

The initial inquiry found that a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta was eastbound on LA Hwy 16. The Volkswagen went off the road to the left for unknown reasons. The Volkswagen crashed into a commercial building after leaving the road.

Langlois was unrestrained at the time of the accident and suffered significant injuries. Langlois was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A toxicological sample was acquired from Langlois for analysis as part of the continuing investigation. This crash is still being investigated.

While not all accidents are avoidable, statistics suggest that wearing your seat belt properly reduces your chances of being injured or killed in an accident. Louisiana law requires that everyone in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, wear their seat belts at all times.
