Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – Two students in Calcasieu Parish were arrested for alleged threats on social media toward schools in Sulphur and Lake Charles.
On the 28th of August, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call alerting them about a potential shooting threat at LaGrange High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
In the preliminary inquiry, detectives from CPSO found out that a 15-year-old had used social media to convey a threatening message. Detectives carried out an interrogation of the minor, who was accompanied by a guardian. Following this, the minor was taken into custody, placed in a Juvenile Detention Center, and charged with intimidation.
Detective Clay Planchard from CPSO is heading the investigation on this case. The Calcasieu Parish School Board extended their assistance to CPSO for this investigation.
Also on August 28th, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office got a separate report about a potential shooting threat at Sulphur High School in Sulphur, Louisiana.
In the course of the inquiry, detectives from CPSO found out that a 16-year-old had sent the concerning message to another student via social media. The young person was questioned by detectives, in the presence of a guardian. Following this, the minor was taken into custody and placed in a Juvenile Detention Center, facing charges of menacing.
Detective Cody Ferguson of CPSO is the chief investigator for this case. The investigation receives support from the Calcasieu Parish School Board, working alongside CPSO.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
