Two Louisiana Teens Arrested on Multiple Charges After a Chase in a Stolen Box Truck

St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana - Two teenagers were arrested in Louisiana after they allegedly fled in a stolen box truck from the police; they were charged with various crimes including illegal possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann reported that two teenagers were arrested Monday afternoon on various charges after they allegedly fled in a stolen box truck from Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit agents.

A 16-year-old Violet, Louisiana male juvenile was charged with aggravated flight from an officer, resisting an officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, aggravated criminal damage, illegal possession of stolen property, driver must be licensed, and fugitive escapee.

A 15-year-old male juvenile from Meraux, Louisiana was arrested for illegal possession of stolen property, resisting an officer, and a St. Bernard Parish bench warrant.
Sheriff Pohlmann stated that on Monday, January 9, at around 4 p.m., SID Narcotics Unit agents on patrol in the Chalmette area stopped a U-Haul truck that had a wrecked front end and a shredded rear driver-side tire after it failed to use a turn signal while heading eastbound on East Girod Street.
The driver, later identified as a 16-year-old male juvenile, refused to stop during the traffic encounter.

The 16-year-old driver and the 15-year-old male juvenile passenger escaped the truck and fled on foot after the truck crashed in the 200 block of East Prosper Street. After a brief struggle, both were arrested by agents nearby.

During the inquiry, investigators discovered that the U-Haul truck had been reported stolen from Orleans Parish and had been involved in a hit-and-run earlier that day in St. Tammany Parish.

A criminal background check on both suspects revealed that the 16-year-old is a missing person out of Baton Rouge and an escapee from the Bridge City Center for Youth, and the 15-year-old has an active bench warrant out of St. Bernard juvenile drug court.

Based on the results, both male adolescents were transferred to the St. Bernard Parish Juvenile Detention Center to face the charges listed above.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty.
