Jefferson Parish, Louisiana – At around 2:00 p.m. on December 8, 2023, Louisiana State Police Troop B initiated an inquiry into a fatal single-vehicle crash on U.S. 90B near Scotsdale Drive in Harvey. The incident resulted in the tragic deaths of Joshua L. Bruce, aged 37, from New Orleans, Louisiana, and Dale Bourg, aged 47, from Marrero, Louisiana.

According to the preliminary investigation, Bruce was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado heading west on U.S.90B near Scotsdale Drive when he lost control of his vehicle for reasons that are still being looked into. This led to the vehicle veering off the road and colliding with a bridge support. Bruce was not wearing a seat belt at the time and sustained fatal injuries, while Bourg, who was also unrestrained in the front passenger seat, suffered a similar fate.

Impairment is currently undetermined and a sample for toxicology analysis has been collected. The crash is currently being investigated by authorities.

Louisiana State Troopers urge all drivers to make responsible choices when operating vehicles and emphasize the importance of buckling up – a simple action that takes just three seconds but can save lives. It’s important to note that Louisiana law mandates all occupants of motor vehicles to be properly restrained regardless of their seating position as failure to do so continues to be the leading cause of preventable fatalities in vehicle crashes.
