Two Louisiana Men Arrested by LDWF Agents for DWI While Boating
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported on June 29, 2022, that enforcement agents arrested two Louisiana men on June 25 for allegedly operating or driving a vessel while intoxicated (DWI) in St. Mary and St. Martin parishes.
Agents arrested Jonathon Landry, 37, of Morgan City, Louisiana, and Jules Joiner, 25, of Pierre Part, Louisiana, for DUI. Agents also cited Joiner for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and for no running lights.
Agents were on patrol in St. Martin Parish’s Atchafalaya River when they noticed Landry operating a vessel. Agents observed Landry showing signs of impairment during a boating safety check. Landry was arrested for DWI and booked into the Berwick Police Department Jail.
Later that day, agents observed Joiner operating a vessel in the St. Martin Parish Intracoastal Waterway after legal sunset. During a boating safety check, agents also noticed signs of impairment in Joiner. He was also found with marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Joiner was arrested and booked into the Morgan City Police Department Jail.
According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the penalties for DWI are the same as driving a vehicle. Anyone arrested for DWI on the water or on the road will lose his or her driver’s license and boating privileges for the duration of the case, as ordered by the judge.
DWI carries a fine of $300 to $1,000 and up to six months in jail. Possession of marijuana is punishable by a fine of up to $100. Possession of drug paraphernalia carries a $300 fine and up to 15 days in jail. A $50 fine is imposed for failing to use running lights.
Agents involved in the case include Sgt. Scott Dupre and Senior Agent Jeremy Foret.
