Two Louisiana Felons Sentenced on Firearms Charges After Being Arrested During Traffic Stops
Lake Charles, Louisiana – Two Louisiana felons have been sentenced to federal prison after being arrested during traffic stops.
United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced the sentencing of two defendants for illegal possession of firearms. United States District Judge James D. Cain, Jr. sentenced both defendants.
For being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, Lequentin Williams, 26, of Shreveport, Louisiana was sentenced to 36 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. The accusations against Williams come from a traffic stop performed on January 15, 2021, by Lake Charles officers assigned to the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force. Williams was driving the vehicle, which also contained two other passengers. Officers have reason to suspect that the occupants of the vehicle were involved in criminal activities due to the contradictory stories they supplied. A narcotics K-9 officer came on the scene and did a free-air sniff, indicating the presence of illegal substances within the vehicle. Officers discovered a Glock.45 caliber handgun and a substantial amount of cash in the vehicle. Later, Williams admitted to holding the firearm despite being forbidden from doing so due to prior felony convictions. His prior felony convictions include attempted illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled and dangerous substance, indecent behavior of a juvenile, second-degree battery, and aggravated flight from an officer. On October 5, 2022, Williams entered a guilty plea to the allegation of felon in possession of a firearm. The ATF and the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force investigated this case, which was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jamilla A. Bynog.
Glenn Ray LaSalle, Jr., age 23, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced to 50 months in prison followed by 3 years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. LaSalle was discovered carrying a Glock.40 caliber handgun on his person on November 20, 2021, during a traffic stop in Lafayette Parish conducted by the Louisiana State Police. LaSalle has prior felony convictions for aggravated flight from an officer and possession of stolen things and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. The ATF and Louisiana State Police investigated this case, which was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John W. Nickel.
