Two Louisiana Drivers Killed in November 17 Crash on LA 14

Louisiana - The Louisiana State Police Troop I was alerted of a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 14 at Leleux Road in Iberia Parish at 4:45 p.m. on November 17, 2022. Kelly J. Duplantis, Jr., 45, of Delcambre, Louisiana, and John B. Young, Jr., 54, of Youngsville, Louisiana, were killed in the accident.

Young was driving a 2019 Jeep Cherokee north on Leleux road approaching the junction with LA 14 eastbound, and reportedly crossed both eastbound lanes, and entered the westbound lanes of travel without yielding. Duplantis was driving a 2012 GMC 2500 pickup westbound on LA 14 when the pickup collided with Young's Cherokee in the westbound lane.

Troopers determined that Duplantis was unrestrained and died as a result. Young died as well, despite being restrained. The Iberia Parish Coroner's Office declared both drivers deceased at the scene.

Although there is no evidence of impairment, toxicological samples were gathered from both drivers for processing. This collision is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Police would like to encourage drivers to slow down and come to a complete stop to verify there is no cross-traffic and to always use their seat belts, regardless of seating position. These kinds of safeguards can often mean the difference between life and death.

Since the beginning of 2022, LSP Troop I has investigated 54 fatal crashes that resulted in 61 deaths.
