West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana – A devastating two-vehicle crash on US 61 in West Feliciana Parish late Saturday night resulted in the arrest of two drivers, both from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI). The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 14, 2024, highlights the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of road safety.
According to the Louisiana State Police, a 2009 Toyota Rav4, operated by 29-year-old Walter Lopez, was traveling south on US 61 when it crossed over the median and into the northbound lanes, colliding with a 2024 Nissan Kicks driven by 23-year-old Zaria Brown. The crash resulted in serious injuries to both drivers, as well as a 3-year-old passenger in Brown’s vehicle.
Lopez was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he displayed signs of impairment and was subsequently charged with DWI and vehicular negligent injuring. He was booked into the West Feliciana Parish Jail.
Brown, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, also sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Her 3-year-old passenger, who was properly restrained, was also injured in the incident. Brown displayed signs of impairment and was charged with DWI with child endangerment and vehicular negligent injuring. She will be booked into the West Feliciana Parish Jail.
