Two From Louisiana Die in Two-Vehicle Crash on US 190 After Vehicle Leaves Roadway and Collides with Parked Tractor-Trailer
Louisiana - Two people were killed in a crash on US 190 in Louisiana on December 29, 2022, when the vehicle they were in collided with the rear of a parked tractor-trailer.
On December 29, 2022, soon after 10:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police reported that Troopers with LSP Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle crash on US 190 east of LA 978 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash killed 69-year-old Barbara Dobard Rigby and 98-year-old Maynette Dobard of Alexandria, Louisiana.
The early investigation found that Rigby was driving a 2018 Lincoln MKX SUV east on US 190. Rigby exited the highway to the right for unknown reasons and collided with the rear end of a 2020 Volvo tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer was parked on the eastbound shoulder, with the emergency flashers activated.
Despite being securely restrained, both occupants of the Lincoln SUV died at the scene. The 18-wheeler's sleeper cab had a single occupant who was not injured. A toxicological sample was taken from Rigby as part of the ongoing inquiry and will be analyzed. This accident is still being investigated.
Troopers would like to urge motorists to always make sound judgments when driving. Never drive while inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and always obey all traffic rules. While not all accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
