Two From Louisiana Arrested in Connection with Dispute While Driving

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – On September 19, 2022, the Baton Rouge Police Department reported that on September 18, investigators arrested Lawrence Brooks, 46, and Marley Banks, 33, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Banks and a 42-year-old female were driving in a Honda Accord near the 2400 block of Balis Street when they noticed a Nissan Rogue following them. Lawrence Brooks was identified as the driver of the Nissan by the female driver of the Honda. Brooks and the female had had prior disputes. The woman quickly contacted the police and informed them that she was being followed. She attempted to flee, but Brooks was able to stop her vehicle in the 3600 block of Hundred Oaks Avenue. Brooks got out of his vehicle, pulled out a gun, and fired at the woman. From inside her vehicle, the female returned fire.

Brooks was then taken to a local hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. His injuries look to be non-fatal.

Lawrence Brooks was arrested on charges of two counts of attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Marley Banks was arrested on Obstruction of Justice and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
