Tropical Weather Outlook for Remnants of Hurricane Agatha Issued by NWS National Hurricane Center

On May 30, 2022, the National Weather Service’s National Hurricane Center issued a Tropical Weather Outlook for the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico. According to the forecast, a large and complex area of low pressure is expected to possibly form near the Yucatan Peninsula and the northwestern Caribbean Sea over the next few days, due to the remnants of Hurricane Agatha from the eastern Pacific. Following that, this system is expected to move slowly northeastward, and a tropical depression could form in the northwestern Caribbean or southeastern Gulf of Mexico by the end of this week. Regardless of development, locally heavy rain is expected across parts of southern Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula, Guatemala, Belize, and western Cuba this week.

As of May 30, 2022, this system poses no threat to Southwest Louisiana.

The chance of formation by June 1, 2022 is low, near 0 percent.
The chance of formation by June 4 is medium, at 50 percent.
