Transient in Louisiana Arrested After Allegedly Setting Fire in Garage Following Confrontation with Homeowner

Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana – The State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) has apprehended a homeless individual for allegedly igniting a fire in a garage that was attached to an occupied residence.

At approximately 1 a.m. on June 20, the Mansura Volunteer Fire Department promptly responded to a distress call concerning a garage fire situated in the 6800 block of Clara Street. The homeowner, following a confrontation with Williams, who was allegedly found camping in the homeowner’s backyard without authorization, noticed the presence of smoke approximately 20 minutes after the altercation.

Through a thorough examination of the crime scene and gathering statements from witnesses, law enforcement officials were able to conclude that the fire had been deliberately ignited and subsequently identified Williams, a transient individual within the vicinity, as a prime suspect.

Subsequently, an arrest warrant was authorized for him, leading to the diligent efforts of the Mansura Police Department in locating and apprehending Williams.

John Williams, 37, was booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail on Saturday, June 24, on one count of Aggravated Arson.
