Evangeline Parish, Louisiana – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I were informed about a motorcycle crash on Louisiana Highway 104 near Lanse De Deshotel Rd on October 17, 2023, around 11:45 p.m. Sadly, 64-year-old Russell John Armond, Sr. from Mamou, Louisiana lost his life in the crash.

According to the investigation conducted by the State Police, the crash took place when Armond was traveling west on LA Hwy 104 on a 2001 Honda Shadow motorcycle. Armond, for reasons unknown, veered off the road to the right and ended up in a ditch. As a result, Armond was thrown off the motorcycle.

Armond, who was wearing a helmet that met the DOT standards, tragically sustained injuries that resulted in his death.

The Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office officially declared him deceased. LSP indicated that it is unclear if any impairment was involved, thus a toxicology sample was sent for examination to determine this.

Troopers are advising motorcyclists of every age and skill level to be cautious and fully equipped before riding in different conditions. By enrolling in certified training programs, riders learn about secure riding techniques like being visible on the road, wearing appropriate safety gear, implementing effective riding strategies, and recognizing their motorcycle’s abilities and limitations. Through these safety practices, motorcyclists are taught to prevent crashes and minimize any potential injuries in case of a collision.

Individuals who ride motorcycles can access additional details regarding helmet regulations and rider safety lessons by visiting the website www.LSP.ORG/motorcycle.html.
