Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana – On July 21, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 484 resulted in the death of 21-year-old Chadwick J. Nelson II, a resident of Natchez, Louisiana. Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to the incident, which remains under investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that Nelson was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on the highway when, for reasons yet to be determined, the vehicle veered off the road. The truck traveled down the ditch embankment and collided with a large tree. Unfortunately, Nelson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
In accordance with standard protocol, toxicology samples were collected for analysis to determine if any substances may have played a role in the incident. The ongoing investigation aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
Authorities emphasize the critical importance of seat belt use. Statistics show that properly fastening seat belts can significantly reduce the risk of fatal injuries in vehicle crashes. Ensuring that all occupants are secured with seat belts can often be the difference between life and death.
Troop E has investigated a total of 35 fatal crashes in 2024, resulting in 39 fatalities.
