Preliminary investigations indicate that the pedestrian was walking in the southbound lane of LA Hwy 21 when a 2005 Buick LeSabre, also traveling south, struck the individual. Tragically, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Buick, who was properly restrained during the incident, sustained no injuries.
In accordance with standard procedures, toxicology samples were collected from both the pedestrian and the driver for further analysis. This is a common practice in such investigations to determine if any substances may have played a role in the crash.
Authorities are reminding both pedestrians and motorists of the importance of safety on the roadways. Crashes involving pedestrians can often be prevented by adhering to basic safety guidelines. For pedestrians, wearing light-colored or reflective clothing is crucial, especially when walking at night or in poorly lit areas. It is vital for individuals on foot to assume that drivers may not see them, which is particularly important in dark conditions. Pedestrians are advised to cross streets only in well-lit, designated areas and to walk facing oncoming traffic whenever possible.
By following these simple yet effective measures, pedestrians can significantly enhance their safety and reduce the risk of future incidents. The Louisiana State Police continue to investigate this tragic crash and urge the public to remain vigilant on the roadways.
