Tragic I-55 Crash Update: Louisiana Authorities Conclusively Identify Seven Victims

By Evelina Rivers

Published October 27, 2023

As the investigation into the multi-vehicle crash on I-55 continues, significant progress has been made by Troopers and forensic examiners. The incident has claimed the lives of seven victims, rather than the initial report of eight victims. The intense fire and extensive wreckage initially led Troopers to believe there were eight victims. However, through collaboration with the St. John the Baptist Parish Coroner’s Office, Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office, and The LSU Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services (FACES) Laboratory, it has been conclusively determined that there are no additional or unknown victims of this tragic incident, only the seven identified victims.

LSP also indicated that the community has played a crucial role in this investigation, providing an invaluable amount of support by submitting footage and information. Their assistance has greatly aided Troopers in developing the investigation.

Officials encourage anyone affected by the tragic incident to utilize the Louisiana Department of Health behavioral health resource guide that can be found by following this link.

The crash remains under investigation and additional updates are expected.
