DeRidder, Louisiana – A devastating two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 3226 near the intersection with Glendale Road in Beauregard Parish resulted in the death of 46-year-old Christopher Burge of Singer, Louisiana on July 29, 2024. The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m. when a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Burge, failed to stop and struck the rear of a 2019 Mack dump truck.
According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop D, the dump truck had come to a stop due to construction congestion ahead, but the Chevrolet failed to brake, leading to the fatal collision. The driver of the dump truck was also properly restrained and escaped injury.
While impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Distracted and inattentive driving continues to be the leading cause of crashes in the state, and Louisiana State Police urge all motorists to make wise choices behind the wheel. As the authorities emphasize, a lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences, and it is crucial to stay vigilant while driving.
