Abbeville, Louisiana - The Louisiana State Police Troop I initiated an investigation into a severe injury collision involving a bicyclist on Louisiana Highway 82 near Louisiana Highway 690 around 7:00 p.m. on December 10, 2023. Tragically, the collision resulted in the passing of Darrell Boudreaux, a 61-year-old resident of Abbeville, Louisiana.

Initial findings suggest that Boudreaux was traveling eastbound on LA Hwy 82 on his bicycle when a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, also heading east, collided with the rear of his bicycle. This collision caused severe injuries to Boudreaux, leading to his eventual passing after being transported to a nearby hospital.

The driver of the Dodge was unharmed and was found not to be under the influence of any impairing substances; they voluntarily provided a sample for toxicology analysis. A sample will also be collected from Boudreaux for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation into this incident.

So far in 2023, Troop I has investigated 50 fatal crashes resulting in 55 fatalities.
