Three-Vehicle Crash on I-12 Involving Two 18-Wheelers Claims the Life of a Louisiana Woman
Livingston Parish, Louisiana – A three-vehicle crash on I-12 involving two 18-wheelers claimed the life of a Louisiana woman.
On April 7, 2023, Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that Troopers from Troop A began investigating a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 near LA 441 in Livingston Parish. Maegan Breaux, 25, of Des Allemands, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.
According to investigators, Breaux was driving a 2021 Toyota Camry east on Interstate 12. Breaux exited the route to the left, struck the cable barrier, then re-entered the lane before coming to rest near the centerline for reasons that are still being explored. At the same time, a 2007 Kenworth 18-Wheeler was in the right lane heading east, and a 2021 Freightliner 18-Wheeler was in the left lane following the Kenworth. Breaux reportedly began to depart her vehicle for unknown reasons, at which point the Kenworth swerved to the left and collided with the back end of the Camry and Breaux. The Kenworth collided with the Freightliner, which then exited the highway to the left into the median.
Breaux suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers of the 18-wheelers were properly restrained at the time of the crash and did not receive any injuries in the incident. As part of the ongoing inquiry, a toxicological sample was acquired from each driver and will be analyzed. This accident is still being investigated.
Troopers said that they want to urge motorists to always make sound judgments when driving. Never drive while inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and always obey all traffic rules. While not all accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
