Three people were killed and one person was severely injured in an early morning crash on LA 77 in West Baton Rouge Parish involving a stolen vehicle.

The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office asked for assistance from the Louisiana State Police Troop A to look into an automobile crash that happened on LA 77 near Smith Acres Lane just before 4:00 a.m. on August 10, 2023. The unfortunate incident led to the deaths of three people whose identities haven't been established yet.

The primary inquiry showed that officers from West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office were chasing a stolen 2018 Nissan Pathfinder. The chase extended into Pointe Coupee Parish and as the Nissan was heading north on LA 77, the person at the wheel couldn't manage the curve and lost control. Consequently, the Nissan veered off the road hitting several things before crashing into a tree and getting consumed by fire.

The car crash claimed the lives of three passengers on the spot. Another passenger sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The officials are currently trying to identify the individuals involved in the accident.

The crash is still being investigated by LSP. The West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office deputies will look into the chase and the criminal connections associated with this event.
