Three From Louisiana Cited for Allegedly Taking Migratory Game Birds from Public Road and Firing From a Moving Vehicle

Ouachita Parish, Louisiana – Three people from Louisiana were cited for illegally taking migratory game birds from a public road and firing a firearm from a moving vehicle.

On February 26, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) reported that three people were cited for illegally taking migratory game birds in Ouachita Parish.

Blake Perot, 23, James Orr, 22, and a juvenile, all of Grayson, Louisiana, were cited by agents for hunting migrating game birds from a public road and from a moving vehicle. Authorities also cited Orr and the minor with firing a firearm from a public road.

On the morning of February 26, agents got a report of persons killing geese off Highway 165 in Ouachita Parish. Authorities arrived quickly and determined that Perot, Orr, and the juvenile had allegedly harvested 18 geese from a moving vehicle on a public route.

Agents learned that Perot drove the vehicle from the shoulder of the road to approach the geese, with Orr and the juvenile hiding behind the open doors of the vehicle. When the geese flew up, they fired an undetermined number of shots, killing 18 of them. Agents searched the location and discovered multiple shotgun shells on the road’s shoulder.

Hunting migratory game birds from or with the aid of a moving vehicle is punishable by a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Discharging a firearm from a public road is punishable by a $50 fine and up to 30 days in prison.

The subjects could also face civil restitution of $928 for the value of the illegally stolen geese.

Sgt. John Miller, Sgt. Davis Harrell, Corporal David Nelson, and Senior Agent Lucas Breed are the agents involved in this investigation.
